High above the street, at The 21st Floor Hotel in Migdal Ha’ir, Jerusalem opens up in every direction. On the watershed between east and west, the square floor looks out towards every point of the compass and across the city’s urban landscape. This is where we have chosen to hold the fifth edition of the Room Service festival, led by the KATAMON Dance Group.
As Jerusalem’s winter begins, we invite you into a warm, enveloping experience of human closeness. Beyond the doors of the rooms, worlds await discovery. Bodies in motion, video and sound transform hotel rooms into sites of compelling, surprising and sometimes strange encounters, which you can experience up close. Very close.
Room Service is a festival of contrasts. The sprawling city is visible through the windows, while inside, performances unfold in intimate spaces. A hotel room intended to let a guest be alone becomes a place of encounter; anonymity gives way to closeness, and you are invited to enter, be our guest and, for a moment, become part of someone else’s world.
This festival has taken shape over the course of a year, through a deep process shared with extraordinary artists. In the summer, they immersed themselves in public space, working within the life of the city. Now, in winter, they distil their work into a close encounter, opening new possibilities for the works to meet you, the audience.
You are invited on a brief, exhilarating escape: delicate and intimate. Come wander from room to room, lose yourself in the works and, at the end, take the lift back down to the city, carrying a secret that stays in the room above.
A festival ticket grants two hours of access to the hotel, from 18:00 to 20:00 or from 21:00 to 23:00. Some works take place at set times, while others allow you to come and go throughout the evening.
You are invited to move between the rooms, experience the eight works presented in them, and spend time at the festival bar.
