Since 2014, the c.a.t.a.m.o.n Dance Group has been organizing a contemporary dance festival in the Mahane Yehuda market. More than 80 original dance pieces have been presented over the years throughout the market, in businesses and surrounding buildings. Each year, Israeli and international creators are invited to present a variety of conceptual events to the general public. The festival creates a unique, local, experience in the nightlife of Jerusalem. Events such as Dinner & A Show, Performances in alternative spaces (hotel rooms, galleries, bars, and workers restaurants), video-dance events, open-air performances, and many more, take place in the Mahane Yehuda market. The constant friction between all sectors of the population in the Mahane Yehuda market, within the Jerusalem-Israeli reality, turns the market into a relevant and inspiring platform for action. Movement, non-verbal communication, personal expression in the public sphere, through the body, all encourage encounters around artistic-political-personal discourse, which we seek to conduct directly in the space where it occurs, as we aim to involve diverse and numerous audiences.
