From Jaffa to Agripas Festival

Since 2014, c.a.t.a.m.o.n Dance Group has held the ‘From Jaffa to Agripas’ Festival, showcasing unique contemporary dance pieces that merge dance with alternative urban spaces. The festival brings a one-of-a-kind artistic experience to Jerusalem, inviting Israeli and international artists each year to present their work across a range of conceptual events.

The performances take place in alternative spaces such as galleries, bars, restaurants, and open or public spaces. Events like “Dinner & A Show,” durational performances, guided tours, and video dance pieces create a fascinating fusion between art and the lively atmosphere of the city. Mahane Yehuda Market, a vibrant meeting point for people from all segments of Israeli society, became the festival’s home for its first decade. Inspired by this, c.a.t.a.m.o.n has developed a relevant and inspirational performative space that engages with the ongoing social and cultural tensions that characterize life in Jerusalem.

The festival fosters encounters around artistic, political, and personal conversations in the public sphere, using the body, non-verbal communication, and personal expression. These artistic dialogues occur directly in the spaces where life unfolds, engaging the broad public and the diverse cultures that frequent the market and beyond.
