Marie Lévêque

Marie Lévêque (elle-she) is a performer, teacher and dance creator based in Tiohtià:ke/Mooniyang/Montreal. She holds degrees in choreographic studies from the Conservatoire de Nantes and the École de danse contemporaine de Montréal. She currently works with the companies We all fall down, Emmanuel Jouthe-Danse Carpe Diem, Lilith & Cie, and teaches at Corpuscule, revisiting inclusivity and accessibility in dance.
Marie’s artistic approach focuses on deconstructing and distorting cultural images and symbols from a feminist perspective.
In 2022, she produced a sequence shot, vingt-cinq kilomètres, broadcast in Montreal, Quebec City and Utah, and presented an intergenerational piece, cent quinze kilomètres, at Théâtre aux Écuries. Her current research explores the impact of medicine on women’s bodies and the reappropriation of the body following trauma.
Her work is based on notions of inclusion, teamwork and “living together”. With Philippe Dépelteau and Luce Lainé, she co-founded the collective les petits papiers, which organizes events that celebrate and support research processes.
She collaborates extensively with the music community, joining in acoustic and/or technological research projects at Banff and CIRMMT, and participating in improvisational performances in Montreal, New Brunswick, Alberta and Sweden. She is an active member of the Inland Ocean cooperative, which brings together music, dance and visual artists from around the world to initiate interdisciplinary, innovative and collaborative creative processes.
